One driving aspect behind cities that are experiencing growth is a strong Chamber of Commerce with the vision, operating capacity and resources to help businesses both connect and thrive, whether that’s with other local businesses, on a regional, national, or global level.
Currently, there are approximately 7,000 Chambers of Commerce in the United States. In 2025, only 197 Chambers carry the 5-Star Accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the highest available, with the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce being part of this select group. To earn the 5-Star Accreditation, a Chamber must demonstrate a commitment to:
· Reviewing, improving, and promoting strong business practices
· Recognizing leadership and outstanding contributions to the community
· Supporting the principles of free enterprise and promoting pro-growth policies at federal, state, and local levels
· Establishing best practices and staying in-step with industry changes.
I have the honor of serving as the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Chair in 2026. Being able to work alongside our Board of Directors, Chamber leadership, and dedicated staff, it provides an exciting opportunity to build on the strong foundation that makes Overland Park one of the most dynamic business communities in the region.
It’s no coincidence that nearly 10,000 businesses now call Overland Park home. That success is rooted in intentional leadership, smart planning, and a long-standing commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment. This framework has resulted in individuals willing to take a risk, pursue a dream, and finding a community that supported their business growth.
One of Overland Park’s greatest strengths is its diversity of businesses. Global corporations, franchise operators, and local entrepreneurs all thrive here because of the opportunity and quality of life the city offers. Strong neighborhoods, excellent schools, and access to meaningful careers make Overland Park a place where businesses grow and families put down roots.
Like most flourishing cities, continued growth brings challenges that must be addressed, including infrastructure improvements, expanded city services, and development and transportation upgrades.
Looking ahead to 2026, major investments will continue to support Overland Park’s growth. However, just as important are the infrastructure upgrades that often go unnoticed but are essential to safety and mobility: traffic signal improvements, curb and drainage upgrades, and new or improved sidewalks across the city.
The Chamber’s priorities for 2026 reflect both opportunity and responsibility. We are focused on strengthening Leadership Overland Park through deeper alumni engagement, expanding opportunities for Young Professionals and the Student Chamber of Commerce, and preparing our business community for the global spotlight that comes with the World Cup in 2026. We will continue to serve as a convener and unifier on key community issues while advocating for our quality of life at a time when fragmentation is growing.
The voices of business leaders stepping forward matters in building upon the Chamber’s vision as the resource, convener, advocate and change maker that drives economic success. More than 130,000 employees work in Overland Park supporting families, fueling local economic activity, and generating sales tax revenues that fund essential city services. Together, we also advance meaningful philanthropy through our time, talent, and treasure.
In 2026, the Chamber will accelerate Opportunity NOW, which is in the fourth year of a five-year community and economic development initiative consisting of three main goals:
Goal 1: Attract, Retain and Align Talent
Goal 2: Boost Job Growth & Business Investment
Goal 3: Enhance Pro-business Environment.
In addition, launching new resources for small businesses and entrepreneurs, and driving redevelopment as much of our commercial infrastructure enters middle age. These efforts ensure Overland Park remains competitive, vibrant, and prepared for the future.
Overland Park’s success did not happen by chance. It is the result of strong partnerships between government, business, education, and community leaders committed to public safety, economic vitality, and a skilled workforce to meet the changing business needs.
The Overland Park Chamber is focused on continuing to be a bold, unwavering voice for pro-business policies at the local, state and federal levels, and help shape a thriving Overland Park for future generations.
